1 Review on “The varieties of spiritual experience. 21st Century research and perspectives”
The scientific research of this book is based on two premises: a definition of spirituality that embraces unusual experiences only: everyday life is left out of consideration. The second premise is that it studies people’s accounts on their “spiritual” experiences and not the causes, the origins of them. The whole book is meant to be a continuation of William James’ The varieties of religious experience (1902). The two premises make the book rather useless: it is really impaired by its definition of spiritual experience and it doesn’t face any existential discussion.
